Project: Walton County Future Farmers of America Tractor Museum

PROJECT oVERVIEW

The Walton County FFA Tractor Museum is a collaborative initiative between local leaders, the agricultural community, the Farm Bureau of Walton County and the Wonderful Walton Economic Development Alliance. Designed to become one of the most unique heritage tourism destinations in the Southeast, the museum will house the largest private collection of restored John Deere tractors in America, alongside vintage Caterpillar machinery and rare agricultural artifacts.

Thanks to a transformational in-kind donation by Dr. James Sheppard—offering 140+ restored John Deere tractors and Caterpillar units valued at $5.25 million—the project is positioned to secure this collection for public benefit at a cost of just $1.5 million. Proceeds from the future museum will directly support every Walton County FFA chapter, investing in the next generation of farmers, engineers, and rural entrepreneurs.

Wonderful Walton is proud to support this effort as part of our commitment to preserving rural heritage and enhancing year-round economic activity in Walton County.

The project received its IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit designation in December 2024, enabling donors to make tax-deductible contributions to help bring the vision to life.

Museum Highlights Will Include:

  • Fully restored John Deere tractors dating back to the 1920s

  • A rare Caterpillar collection reflecting early mechanized farming

  • Student-led exhibits connecting history to modern ag-tech

  • Educational programming in partnership with FFA chapters and local schools

  • Outdoor demonstrations and restoration workshops
