Introduction

Our Vision

To create a balanced, prosperous economy that enhances quality of life, strengthens industry, and preserves Walton County’s unique character.

Strategic Corridors

The Wonderful Walton Economic Development Alliance (WWEDA) is committed to fostering sustainable economic growth while preserving the unique character and quality of life that makes Walton County special. Our Strategic Plan is designed to ensure that as Walton County grows, it remains a place where businesses can thrive, communities stay strong, and natural resources are protected.

Our plan focuses on four key economic development corridors, ensuring that growth is balanced, targeted, and beneficial to residents, businesses, and investors alike. These corridors guide our economic strategy by recognizing the county’s existing strengths and shaping future opportunities.

Agriculture & Ecotourism

Walton County’s rural charm and natural beauty are valuable economic assets. By promoting agriculture, conservation, and outdoor tourism, we can preserve these resources while creating new revenue streams.

Key initiatives include:

  • Farm-to-Table connections between North Walton farms and South Walton’s tourism industry.

  • Ecotourism expansion, featuring hiking, kayaking, and the Florida National Scenic Trail.

  • Sustainable agriculture and conservation partnerships to maintain working lands.

This approach supports small businesses, diversifies tourism, and strengthens the local food economy, making Walton County a model for sustainable growth.

Commercial & Industrial

A strong local economy depends on diversified industries and high-wage job opportunities. While tourism is vital, Walton County must expand into manufacturing, logistics, and professional services to ensure long-term economic stability.

Located along major transportation routes and within a growing regional market, Walton County is well-positioned to attract new businesses while supporting existing ones. Our focus is on:

  • Recruiting industries that align with the region’s workforce and infrastructure.

  • Strengthening local businesses by expanding supply chains and skilled labor.

  • Ensuring smart growth by promoting business-friendly policies and infrastructure investment.

With targeted commercial and industrial development, Walton County can create more career opportunities while maintaining its small-town appeal.

Community Development

Economic success is only meaningful when it improves quality of life. Community development ensures Walton County remains a great place to live and work, attracting and retaining a talented workforce.

Our focus includes:

  • Workforce housing to keep local workers living in the county.

  • Healthcare expansion to meet the needs of a growing population.

  • Infrastructure investment in roads, broadband, and utilities.

  • Workforce training and education to align skills with industry demands.

By strengthening housing, healthcare, and infrastructure, Walton County can support economic growth while enhancing livability for all residents.

Defense &
Technology

Walton County’s proximity to Eglin Air Force Base, the C6 Space Force corridor, and Tyndall Air Force Base presents a unique opportunity to expand in defense, aerospace, and high-tech industries.

Eglin Air Force Base serves as a critical hub for weapons development and testing, while the C6 site is increasingly relevant to Space Force initiatives. Tyndall Air Force Base, designated as an "Installation of the Future," is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar rebuild with a focus on cutting-edge air dominance, space operations, and next-generation military technologies.

With these assets, Walton County is well-positioned to become a regional leader in defense innovation and technology development. Our priorities include:

  • Strengthening partnerships with military and defense contractors to support research, development, and supply chain needs.

  • Attracting companies in aerospace, cybersecurity, and advanced manufacturing that align with military and space-related advancements.

  • Leveraging regional defense assets to secure investment, workforce development, and high-wage job creation.

By tapping into emerging defense and space industry trends, Walton County can position itself as a key player in the future of national security and aerospace technology.

A Balanced Approach to Growth

These four corridors ensure that Walton County’s economic development efforts are:

Sustainable – Preserving Walton County’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and traditional industries while fostering responsible growth.

Pro-Business – Creating an environment that supports entrepreneurship, investment, and job creation to strengthen the local economy.

Our Strategic Plan provides a clear roadmap for how Walton County can continue to grow, attract investment, and create opportunity while maintaining its heritage, character, and exceptional quality of life.
